Cover: Sagittal sections of 15-day-old transgenic mouse embryos (left, G16; right, G34 transgenic mouse lines). Sections from two independently made transgenic mouse lines were prepared at a thickness of 10 µm and were viewed with a confocal microscope for green fluorescence protein. Transgenic mice contained the Na+/H+ exchanger promoter (NHE1 isoform) driving expression of the green fluorescent protein reporter. At 15 days postconception the fluorescence of the heart and kidney were elevated the highest relative to other tissues, indicating elevated levels of transcription of the Na+/H+ exchanger. From Reider CV and Fliegel L. Developmental regulation of Na+/H+ exchanger expression in fetal and neonatal mice. Am J Physiol Heart Circ Physiol 283: H273-H283, 2002.
